6 signs your brakes need attention
Squeals, pulling and a soft pedal: what they mean.
Published 11/10/2026
Brakes wear gradually, so problems are easy to miss.
Warning signs
- Squealing or grinding when you brake.
- Pulling to one side under braking.
- A soft or spongy pedal, or one that sinks.
- Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel.
- A brake warning light.
- Longer stopping distances.
Grinding usually means the pads are worn to the metal and can damage the discs, making the repair more expensive. Get them checked promptly.
